The critic, Shana Nys Dambrot, was selected as the juror for her impartial, outsider status relative to the artists and their movement. Miami FL: December 3 - 31, 2005
Arrive, the new South Beach boutique that blends designer labels with a street aesthetic, is to play host to June 13 – the collaborative project between renowned underground artists Dr Romanelli and Jose Parla.
June 13 is currently on display in Tokyo at LVMH’s Celux, the ultra-exclusive, members only luxury boutique. The show will make its Miami debut on December 3, 2005, during the international art fair Art Basel Miami Beach, and will remain on display at Arrive for one month. Arrive’s owners, Dao-Yi Chow, Max Pierre, and Dennis Jiu will host a party at the shop to kick off the show, with an after-party at Miami hot spot Privè, later that evening.
The exhibit, June 13 signifies more than the shared birthday of both designers, but also represents a collaboration of two creative minds. Dr. Romanelli is a collector of vintage fashion, and an artist. He made a name for himself worldwide by designing high end, one of a kind fashion pieces made by reworking vintage and luxury fashion pieces for brands like Swiss watch maker Jaeger LeCoultre, and the Paris boutique Colette. LA’s B-Boy culture figures prominently in his work. Jose Parla was a part of the same B-boy underground movement while growing up in Miami. In his paintings he seeks to replicate the deterioration of walls and surfaces from cities around the world. For June 13 Parla uses Romanelli’s collection of vintage leather jackets as canvases on which to paint. Leather hoodies, bags by Mondet and sunglasses by Dita are used as canvases for the installation all based around Arrive’s world travel concept. All of the art on display at Arrive will be for sale.

FUMED is not an attempt to “gallerize” Graffiti in its true form rather it focuses on the conceptual exercise in which artists examine their artistic transformation upon the introduction of Graffiti into their studio practice. The fusion that occurs between these two camps generates a crossbreed of hybrid aesthetics which constructs a visual language that leads to a distinct and idealistic identity.

Daniel's 56min documentary on the secret history of hobo and railworker graffiti is called Who is Bozo Texino? Shooting over a period of 16 years, Daniel rode freights across the West, gathering interviews and clues to the identities of many of the most legendary boxcar artists while discovering a vast underground folkloric practice that has existed for over a century. This gritty black and white documentary tells the mostly-factual account of the epic quest and unlikely discovery of railroading's most mysterious artist.

"Birmingham city is going through something of a regeneration recently. We're not talking about the main shopper drags but away from there - on lampposts in the Digbeth area or the abandoned warehouses by the canal in Ladywood, an alien presence is felt.
If you've seen a flowing piece of art which is simultaneously organic and futuristic attached to a grey dowdy building or brightening up a grey street or subway, chances are you're looking at a Mister Jinpow piece.
Mister Jinpow's show Kronk beams down on the 19th November."

ANDREA'S STORY:
In September, while painting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Andrea began experiencing excruciating pain in her abdomen. Her friends rushed her to a hospital where she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Doctors had no choice but to immediately operate. Andrea bravely underwent surgery to keep the cancer from spreading further. She is now with her family in Chile, remaining in high spirits and gaining strength for six months of possible chemotherapy. The treatments and medications will cost tens of thousands of dollars. In Chile, this is an astronomical amount of money that no one can afford. We have pledged to raise money so that Andrea, at age 24, has the chance to beat this.
ACB is an independent artist from Valparaiso,Chile, who works with young people and artists throughout Chile, Brasil, France, and the US. Collectively they work on mural projects that promote social justice and communal self-determination. Since first visiting the US in 2002, Andrea has also worked closely with a variety of grassroots organizations including: Sista II Sista, The Education Alliance, Voices Her'd, and The Point.

New Work by Zachary Johnson

Mama Buzz Café and Buzz Gallery
2316 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland CA USA
Zack Johnson grew up in Oakland, CA. Now living in LA, he will return to his home town to show The Belly of the Beast, new work about how our surroundings become a part of us. Johnson's work focuses on how much of our homes we take with us when we leave. It is about how we carry places and experiences in our guts and muscle memories when we travel. Its about the connections between urban, natural and mental landscapes; Street grids, traffic, and police helicopters. Its about life in the belly of this beast we call America.

Through out the past two decades 100's of thousands of Los Angeles youth have written their names on almost every surface that this city has to offer, saturating all of LA with their tags. "Read The Signs" is a collection of late 1980's to 2005 tags that have been preserved by several anonymous collectors. In spite of all of the cities efforts to eradicate this city of its graffiti problem some of the most prolific writers of our time have manage to survive on the backs of these signs. This show serves as a testament to their existence and the art form known as the tag.

A Graffiti and Street Art Documentary
Directed by Andre Hyland
Music by Anticon's Odd Nosdam (cLOUDDEAD) and Cobra Kai
Nobodys is a documentary focused around what personally drives four different graffiti/street artists to create the public work they install illegally, and what they hope to accomplish by producing it. Featuring MERZ (Autograf, Graffiti World), WHEN (Scribble magazine, Juxtapoz), DARIUS JONES (Public Discourse, Wooster Collective), and FIVE (Scribble magazine, While You Were Sleeping), along with appearances by others such as WOOSH and BUDDY LEMBEK, Nobodys gives the viewer a look into a more personal side of the graffiti world than most recent graffiti films with its more insightful interviews, great images, and street bombing footage. Shot between 1996 and 2005, Nobodys is a graffiti documentary that will please audiences that range from seasoned graffiti writers to open-minded individuals who know little to nothing of graffiti culture.

Artist Ron English doesn't so much speak truth to power, he yells it to everyone through his altered billboard art. Pedro Carvajal's documentary examines English's life and art and invites the viewer to really consider public versus private space and high versus low art. This engaging and often hilarious documentary on Ron English, celebrated prankster father of agit-pop, is a must-see for anyone who enjoys watching corporations' carefully-sharpened iconography being used against them as a weapon of mass destruction. You'll find an interesting story of a man who has dedicated the better part of his life to creating art for the people.
Infused with Ron's infectious passion, THE ART & CRIMES OF RON ENGLISH is an engaging thrill ride into the life and art of the "billboard bandit" that will inspire and activate.

MEAR's current oil and acrylic works allegorically explore the practical reality of human society in relation to mythology. The vibrant coloring, psychedelic and graffiti art undertones and exquisite, realistic detail in MEAR's work has garnered much critical acclaim. This October, his collection will be on display in one place for the first time in his 15 year career.

Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan and William Chan came together in 1994 to form :phunk studio, a creative collective in Singapore. They have propagated a visual signature that seamlessly blends their diverse influences into a singular creative thought that never fails to revive itself in the ever-fleeting world of art, design and culture. Their cross-disciplinary approach is best described as "an aesthetic collective consciousness" focused on experimenting with new approaches to visual expressions. Phunk has collaborated and worked with international brands such as Nike, MTV, Daimler Chrysler, Diesel, Levis, Comme de Garcon's Guerilla Shop, Tiger Beer and Salem. Their self-published multi-media project titled Transmission was distributed worldwide, showcasing the works of Phunk and their collaborators from around the world. They have exhibited and lectured in New York, London, Sydney, Berlin, Valencia, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Phunk was featured on the cover of Creative Review and numerous international books and magazines.

Westwendischer Kunstverein Gartow und getting-up Hamburg

After its big success in 2003, Backjumps – The Live Issue #2 wants to create a setting in Berlin to present current developments and interdisciplinary interfaces of Street Art, aerosol culture and HipHop for the second time.
Over a period of 2 months the city will be more involved in the project and thus it will transform into a live magazine. With the Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien as the central exhibition site there will be over 40 international Street Art artists from New York to São Paulo exhibiting their work in Berlin; parallel to the Art Forum and Kunstherbst.
Whole facades will be reutilized creatively by artists. Decentralized exhibition rooms and the “City Of Names“, a “city made from wood” at the Mariannenplatz expand the spectrum.
In the project "City of Names" by the Initiative Jazzstylecorner e.V., the artists Akim, Zast and 20 more writers from Berlin will build a little city over a period of 5 weeks, involving interested residents and children.
In the Wrangel neighbourhood in Kreuzberg, huge house facades will be redesigned by artists of the project in collaboration with the neighbourhood management. During the course of the project „Rooms and shadows – contemporary art from south east Asia“ by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, which happens parallel to Backjumps, the Indonesian Street Artist Eko Nugroho together with local teenagers will design a facade of the renovated neighbourhood centre at the Cuvrystrasse between Sep 3rd and 15th. Also, the “Station Park” at the Görlitzer Park will be embraced by the project with outdoor painting.
